We have a small but highly experienced team dedicated to helping you optimise business opportunities.
We pride ourselves on our experience, not just as advisers but as principals across a range of businesses. We are able to bring this “hands-on” and entrepreneurial approach to bear in helping you find the right off-market opportunity whether you are a private client, acquisitive corporate or private equity partner.
Brief biographies of our principals follow:-
Ewan Lloyd-Baker – Partner
Ewan joined the business in the late 1990s having worked in corporate recovery, turnaround and corporate finance both as a principal and an adviser. He started his career at Arthur Andersen working in corporate recovery and corporate turnaround with a number of privately owned and publicly listed companies. As a principal he was part of the management team in a venture capital backed start-up which was ultimately sold to Reuters. He then helped set up a FTSE100 corporate incubator before completing his Masters of Business Administration.
In addition to his role in Lloyd-Baker & Associates LLP, he has been the CEO of an AIM-listed specialist engineering business, Hayward Tyler Group plc where he was responsible for finding the original opportunity, arranging the deal, managing the finance-raising process, reversing the company into an AIM plc, leading the re-structuring of the operational business during the recession, gaining funding to support the building of a Centre of Excellence, winning the Queen’s Award for Enterprise: International Trade, buying another engineering brand, Peter Brotherhood, resurrecting the business, laying the foundations for sustainable growth and ultimately selling the whole group to another AIM-listed PLC. Following a successful handover period during which Ewan became a Non-Executive Director of the engineering technology group, Avingtrans plc he is now working with a number of other businesses across a broad range of sectors.
Royston Lloyd-Baker – Partner
Royston is an engineer and entrepreneur who, following international industrial experience, enjoyed a successful career within a large management consultancy, where he worked with Top Tier FTSE 100, Fortune 500 businesses and smaller private companies. In 1971 he founded Lloyd-Baker & Associates to meet the acquisition needs particularly of mid-cap businesses. He has acted as principal and director-shareholder in a number of portfolio businesses, as a deal originator, financing specialist and operator through to development and implementation of eventual exit strategies. With a wealth of experience gained from a multi-faceted business career, Royston chairs Lloyd-Baker & Associates, maintaining a “hands-on” approach in order to meet the aspirations of all the parties in a transaction.
Tristan Lloyd-Baker – Partner
Tristan has gained both corporate finance and banking experience acting as a principal and adviser for over 20 years.
Starting at UBS Warburg in the late 90’s he went on to spend 7 years at Goldman Sachs, operating and managing teams across Fixed Income & Foreign Exchange. In 2007 he set his sights on completing an MBA, during which he consulted for a number of clients including Moto Hospitality with a focus on sustainability and the environment.
Following the completion of the MBA, he joined AeroThermal as the Group Commercial Director, overseeing the 2008/9 capital raising for that business from a Family Office and two Venture Capital Fund investors. This, coupled with the commercialisation of the firms proprietary engineered products led to an exit in 2012.
Seeing the ever widening gap in the SME capital raising market, he set up Seismic Venture Partners to raise capital for niche businesses whose management team’s offered something special. Since starting out, Seismic has raised over £13m into over 20 individual businesses as well as obtaining its fund management permissions as a Directly Regulated AIFM.
